Mindjurny and Schools
Q: Why have Mindjurny in schools?
A: As a vital part of the community, schools are increasingly being asked and legislated (Education Act 2002) to support the emotional wellbeing needs of young people. Mindjurny can elevate a school’s wellbeing offer by targeting aspects of care that are typically gaps in service, by providing:
- Universal access for CYP at the earliest possible time
- Access for those that may not want to ask for help – either because it’s too hard, or because they haven’t recognised that they need help yet
- Adult led support for under 12s, which has been found to be the most effective for early intervention support in this age group
- Better communication between staff and students by watching together and having a shared understanding of the concern
- Staff with greater confidence in understanding, identifying and speaking about emotional wellbeing needs
- School staff and their communities with the skills to start making changes
- The opportunity to raise awareness and positively change the school attitude towards emotional wellbeing
Q: How to fund Mindjurny?
- It is up to schools to decide how exactly to spend their pupil premium so that it supports pupils who need it most
- For the amount received via the premium for one pupil on free school meals, a school could run a whole school programme of unlimited use of Mindjurny for one year.
- School committee (PTA) can fundraise or local business sponsorship
- Ask parent/carers for £2 to support CYP Emotional Wellbeing
